BEIJING, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Here are the latest Chinese sports headlines from the past week:
1. China sweeps five golds on opening day at Diving World Cup Super Final
In front of a capacity crowd, China claimed all five gold medals on the first day of the World Aquatics Diving World Cup Super Final at the National Aquatic Center in Beijing on May 2.
Known for their remarkable "splash disappearance" techniques, Quan Hongchan and Chen Yuxi made their first pair performance since last summer's Paris Olympics, defending their title in the women's 10m platform synchro with a total of 350.88 points.
Olympic champions Chen Yiwen and Chang Yani faced no big challenges in the women's 3m springboard synchro final, finishing with 323.13 points.
Chinese divers also emerged victorious in the men's 3m platform synchro, the men's 10m platform synchro and the mixed team final.
On May 3, Chen and Wang Zongyuan, also an Olympic champion, added two more individual golds with the head-to-head competition format making its debut.
2. China dominates Japan to reach Sudirman Cup final, eyes historic 14th title
China swept Japan 3-0 in the Sudirman Cup semifinals on May 3, securing a berth in the final against South Korea and aiming to extend its dominance in this prestigious mixed team badminton event.
Later on the day, South Korea staged a hard-fought 3-2 win over Indonesia in the other semifinal, setting up a repeat of the 2023 final where China claimed the title with a straight-games victory.
A win on Sunday would extend China's streak to four consecutive Sudirman Cup titles and mark its 14th overall in the biennial tournament's history.
3. Zhao sweeps O'Sullivan to reach Snooker Worlds final
China's Zhao Xintong became the second Asian player to reach the final of the World Snooker Championship as the 28-year-old smashed seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 17-7 on May 2.
After winning the semifinal, Zhao is now only one match away from becoming the first Asian player to claim the world champion title, with Chinese snooker pioneer Ding Junhui having previously lost to Mark Selby in the 2016 final.
The other semifinal will resume on Saturday morning after Mark Williams and world No. 1 Judd Trump tied at 8-8.
4. Beijing, Liaoning into CBA Finals
The Zhejiang Lions outplayed the Liaoning Flying Leopards 109-98, sweeping the defending champions 3-0 in the semifinal of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) playoffs on May 1 to qualify for their third appearance in the finals.
The following day, the Beijing Ducks, three-time CBA champion with the most recent coming in the 2014-15 season, defeated Shanxi Loongs 121-103, wrapping up the best-of-five series 3-0 to reach the finals.
The CBA Finals will start on May 8.
5. 100-day countdown as China sends largest delegation to Chengdu World Games
Around 330 Chinese athletes will participate in the 2025 Chengdu World Games, which marks the country's largest delegation for the event, an official of the General Administration of Sport of China said at a press conference on April 29 as the Games celebrated its 100-day countdown.
The event will be held in Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, from August 7 to 17. According to the organizers, the Games will feature 255 events across 60 disciplines and 34 sports.
The World Games' first torch relay will be held in southwest China's Sichuan Province on July 26.■
