BUENOS AIRES, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Adrian Sporle netted an own goal as Rosario Central secured top spot in its group with a 1-0 home win over Independiente in Argentina's Primera Division Apertura tournament on Saturday.
Sporle gifted the hosts the lead when he inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 20th minute at El Gigante stadium.
Despite having only 41% of possession, the hosts never looked threatened, easing to their 10th win of the campaign.
The result leaves Rosario Central with 35 points at the end of the regular season, six points clear of Independiente, which finished second in Group B.
Meanwhile, Instituto Cordoba secured the group's last playoff spot with a 2-1 away victory over local rival Talleres.
Elsewhere, Deportivo Riestra ended Godoy Cruz's campaign with a 3-0 home victory while San Lorenzo drew 1-1 at Sarmiento, denying the latter's hopes of a playoff berth. ■
