MANILA, May 4 (Xinhua) -- A sports utility vehicle (SUV) crashed through the outer railing and the walkway near the departure entrance of the Philippines' main airport in the Philippine capital on Sunday morning, killing two people and injuring several others, authorities said.
The Philippine Red Cross said a male adult and a four-year-old girl were killed in the crash that occurred before 9 a.m. local time.
San Miguel Corp, which oversees the Ninoy Aquino International Airport operations, has yet to confirm the number of deaths. But it said the crash caused injuries to an unspecified number of people.
"Individuals who sustained injuries are now being treated," the company said.
It added that the SUV driver involved in the incident is now in police custody as a full investigation is underway.
"The area has since been secured, and access is now limited to authorized (airport) personnel and authorities, including the police," the company said.
"We are awaiting official confirmation on the cause of the incident and reports of injuries. We are closely coordinating with all concerned agencies to gather accurate information," said the company.
The company urged the public not to speculate and to wait for verified updates, which will be issued as soon as they become available. ■
